Reading, Sign Language, SSAT & SAT Preparation

We are offering an all new reading program called  "SENSE -ational Super Readers" with Nicole Hawksley.   We are also offering our very popular SAT & SSAT classes again. Space is very limited in these classes so check with us soon if you are interested.

Age 4 & 5,  K:   SENSE-ational Super Readers:  A Multi-Sensory Reading Class

This innovative new reading program will help develop the necessary skills required to become a successful reader. Pre-reading accompaniments such as phonological awareness, spelling, word recognition and overall reading comprehension and practice will be introduced to emergent readers.   The class will use a multi-sensory approach, engaging all of a child's senses.  A variety of kinesthetic manipulatives will be used. This is arguably the most effective way to promote reading fluency.  [Instructor:  Nicole Hawksley.   Nicole is new to Brainwaves and has been a 1st grade teacher for five years.  She has played an integral role in the implementation of additional reading programs such as Project Read.]   5 Classes

Age 4 - K:  American Sign Language (ASL)

Expose your child to American Sign Language at an early age!   This fun, fast moving class combines song, dance, and games to assist in the mastery of ASL.  Your child will love the idea of speaking in a different language, which allows them to have "secret" conversations!  You will enjoy watching them acquire a new language and awareness of a different culture.  [Instructor:  Claire Denton.  Claire has extensive knowledge of American Sign Language.  Her experience as an interpreter includes working with deaf and hard of hearing children at the kindergarten level.]  5 Classes

Grade 8:  Preparation for the SSAT Exam **Only 1 space available**

Successful SSAT test takers not only possess the necessary academic skills but also understand how to take the test.  Through this class, students will review academic skills and learn practical, powerful and up-to-date test taking strategies.  Class fee includes materials. [Instructor: Sharon Schlosser.  Sharon has successfully run our SSAT program at Brainwaves for the past year.]  8   1-hour classes- limited to 4 students.  Meets twice per week.

         7:00 - 8:00 pm  Monday and Wednesday   (Nov. 16 - Dec 9*)  $259

High School:  SAT Prep Class   ** 2 spaces left **

Get a jump on this important college admissions test.  Class will include a complete review of all subjects on the SAT test, as well as test taking strategies and a solid understanding of the test format.  This small class format of 3 to 4 students allows each student to receive individualized instruction.  Class fee includes materials valued at $100 -- including three workbooks, math power cards and vocabulary power cards.  [Instructor: Laura Shaw.]  10 Classes
